The Illustrated London News, vol. 44, no. 1265, p. 606.June 25, 1864
Intelligence has been received in Liverpool of the destruction by fire of the New York river-steamer Berkshire. The intelligence comes vià New York, and is dated June 9. The despatch says:--The steamer Yorkshire was burned at Esops Island, eight miles below Rondout. The fire originated in the lamp-room, caused by the explosion of a lamp. The steamer had about 150 passengers, forty of whom are supposed to be lost.
