The Illustrated London News, vol. 44, no. 1262, p. 543.

June 4, 1864

The New York Times records the death of Dr. Gesner, and says that his principal and most successful effort in practical chemistry was the discovery and introduction of kerosene oil, and oils distilled from coal, bitumen, &c., into America.
