[News Comes from Batavia]

The Illustrated London News, vol. 44, no. 1240, p. 51.

January 16, 1864

News comes from Batavia of the ubiquitous Alabama. On Nov. 6 this daring cruiser, last from Cape Town, fell in with the Amanda, an American ship laden with sugar and hemp, took her, and burnt her. On the 10th she captured and burnt another American ship, the clipper Winged Racer, also laden with hemp and sugar.
